Rene Denfeld is an internationally bestselling author, journalist, and licensed death penalty investigator living in Portland, Oregon.
Rene has written for many esteemed publications including The New York Times Magazine, The Oregonian, and the Philadelphia Inquirer. She is a published author of three books including the international bestseller The New Victorians: A Young Woman's Challenge to the Old Feminist Order, Kill The Body, The Head Will Fall, and All God's Children: Inside the Dark and Violent World of Street Families. Her work has been critically acclaimed by the New York Times Book review, and her work on cognitively impaired parents for the New York Times Magazine is considered seminal in the field.
Her first novel, The Enchanted, will be published by HarperCollins in March 2014.
In addition to her writing career, Rene Denfeld is a licensed investigator who specializes in death penalty work. She is known for her diligent, informed and in-depth investigations. Rene has extensive training and experience in subjects including FASD, drug effects and cognitive impairments. Part of this training and experience has come about in her 15 years of experience as a certified foster and adoptive parent. Her many credentials include a certification in medically fragile infants, participation in the Presidential Commission on Mental Retardation, and previous membership in the New York Academy of Sciences.
Rene Denfeld lives in North Portland. She is the mother of three children she adopted from state foster care.
