Rene Denfeld was raised by a single mother of five in a racially mixed family in Portland, Oregon. Her articles on feminism sparked debate and led to her first book contract in her early twenties. That book, The New Victorians, was an international bestseller. She has written for numerous publications, including the New York Times Magazine and The Philadelphia Inquirer. Rene has made many media appearances from Goodmorning America to CNN.
Rene lives in North Portland with her three children, all adopted from foster care. In addition to writing and parenting, Rene enjoys teaching writing in low-income schools and volunteering in foster-adoption education and outreach. She conducts trainings in the legal field on issues including Working with Cognitively Impaired Clients, Telling the Client's Story, Mitigation and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, and Interviewing Skills. She enjoys working out, playing with her kids, and being a mom.
